Forming faithful, wise, and compelling proclaimers of the gospel for Korean-American and multicultural ministry contexts
Georgia Central University has received a $1,250,000 grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. through its Compelling Preaching Initiative to cultivate practices among aspiring and active preachers that help them proclaim the gospel faithfully, compellingly, and effectively in today’s changing ministry contexts.
Georgia Central University seeks to strengthen the life of the church by cultivating preachers whose proclamation is deeply biblical, spiritually formed, culturally attentive, and pastorally transformative. The initiative reflects GCU’s commitment to Christ-centered leadership, academic excellence, and spiritually grounded ministry formation.

The Compelling Preaching Initiative at Georgia Central University is designed to renew preaching as a formative Christian practice. In an age marked by cultural fragmentation, generational distance, digital distraction, and declining biblical literacy, the church needs preachers who can proclaim the gospel with clarity, conviction, humility, and hope.

Small cohorts of pastors, seminarians, and ministry leaders gather over a 16-week formation journey for learning, reflection, sermon development, mentoring, and peer feedback.
Text-Driven Preaching Labs
Participants move from biblical text to theological claim, sermon structure, congregational application, and gospel-centered proclamation.
Mentoring and Coaching
Experienced faculty and pastoral mentors provide guided feedback on sermon preparation, delivery, pastoral imagination, and leadership growth.
Congregational Practice
Participants preach in ministry settings, receive feedback from mentors and peers, and reflect on how preaching shapes congregational life.
Annual Preaching Gathering
GCU hosts a public preaching conference or seminar to share resources, testimonies, research findings, and best practices with church leaders.
Digital Resource Library
The initiative develops bilingual resources, sermon tools, video teachings, and reflective guides for ongoing use by pastors and churches.

This 16-week initiative welcomes pastors, associate pastors, seminarians, lay preachers, youth and college ministry leaders, and emerging Christian leaders who desire sustained growth in faithful, biblical, and compelling proclamation.
