The Compelling Preaching Initiative at Georgia Central University is designed to renew preaching as a formative Christian practice. In an age marked by cultural fragmentation, generational distance, digital distraction, and declining biblical literacy, the church needs preachers who can proclaim the gospel with clarity, conviction, humility, and hope.

Preaching Responds to the Questions of Our Time

The COVID-19 pandemic brought significant changes across society. These changes became especially pronounced among the MZ generation (Millennials and Generation Z). Individualistic tendencies have intensified, distrust toward institutional and organized religion has grown, and the proportion of those identifying as religiously unaffiliated has increased. At the same time, many are seeking new forms of spirituality beyond the framework of traditional faith.

Amid these cultural shifts, the pandemic accelerated the rise of the individual media era, while the rapid advancement of AI technology has fundamentally transformed the ways people communicate. In the midst of such a changing world, the question remains: How should the unchanging Word of God be proclaimed?

Through the Compelling Preaching Initiative, Georgia Central University seeks to partner with preachers in exploring effective ways to communicate the cross and the gospel in today’s rapidly changing cultural context. Centered on contemporary trends in preaching, this program examines how preaching is evolving in the modern era and goes a step further by offering practical answers to a crucial question: How should preachers prepare and deliver God’s Word faithfully in a changing world?

The Compelling Preaching Initiative addresses the real challenges pastors face in ministry, from selecting the biblical text to delivering the sermon effectively. In addition, through quarterly Cohort Groups, participants receive practical and hands-on preaching coaching from experienced experts. It is our hope that this initiative will serve as a catalyst for the renewal of the pulpit and the rekindling of pastoral passion.

이러한 시대적 흐름 속에서 팬데믹은 1인 미디어 시대의 도래를 가속화했고, AI 기술의 급속한 발전은 소통 방식 전반에 근본적인 변화를 가져왔다. 그렇다면 변화하는 시대 속에서, 변하지 않는 하나님의 말씀은 어떻게 전해야 하는가?

Compelling Preaching Initiative를 통해서 Georgia Central University는 설교자들에게 십자가와 복음을 오늘의 시대에 효과적으로 전달할 수 있는 방법을 함께 모색하는 Program이 될 것이다. 특히 현대 설교의 흐름을 중심으로 구성되어, 설교가 오늘날 어떤 방식으로 변화하고 있는지를 집중적으로 조명하고, 한 걸음 더 나아가 설교자가 변화하는 시대 속에서 어떻게 하나님의 말씀을 준비하고 전달할 것인가라는 실제적 질문에 대한 해답을 제시한다.

Compelling Preaching Initiative는 설교 본문의 선택에서부터 전달에 이르기까지 현장의 목회자들이 실제로 고민하는 문제들을 다룬다. 뿐만 아니라, 매 분기별로 진행되는 Cohort Group을 통해서 전문가들의 실제적이고 실천적인 설교 코칭을 진행하고 있다. 이를 통해 강단의 회복과 목회적 열정을 재점화할 수 있는 계기가 되기를 소망한다.
