PURPOSE

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion (RN to BSN) is an undergraduate degree program designed to help students advance their studies and acquire professional knowledge and skills in nursing. This program provides students with an associate degree in nursing and allows them to work as registered nurses to advance their educational preparation to the bachelor's degree level. The curriculum of this program integrates general education courses and specialized nursing coursework. The program will produce students suitable for professional employment and advance their careers.

OBJECTIVES

Students of the program are expected to demonstrate the following:
  • Ability to integrate nursing education into professional nursing practice,
  • Evidence-based practice with critical thinking,
  • Professional communication with spiritual competence in various healthcare settings,
  • Leadership skills for health promotion during the life cycle and
  • Application of systems, finances, and policies to professional nursing care.

COMPONENTS AND REQUIREMENTS

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion program requires 126 credit hours to graduate, 36 of which must be taken at Georgia Central University. Transfer credits for up to 50 credits of 126 semester credits may be granted. This program also requires a valid RN license to be awarded 40 transfer credits. The program requires a minimum of 2.5 GPA. Also, IR (WS305 Institutional Requirement) is required of all students every semester of enrollment. Nurses with associate degrees can apply for approved transfer credits to satisfy some or all generational education courses.
Obtaining a bachelor's degree in nursing should make graduates more desirable candidates for leadership and management positions and allow them to continue their education to earn a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Most administrative and supervisory positions require a bachelor's degree in nursing. This program provides career advancement to get higher salaries. The BSN degree opens graduates to various specialized nursing jobs outside the traditional nursing field. In addition to working as an RN in a hospital, individuals with a BSNC degree can find jobs as geriatric nurses, OBGYN nurses, and neonatal nurses.
Admission requirements for Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion degree applicants depend on student status. Different standards and credit requirements are set for new, transfer, and international students. This program maintains the following admission requirements for all students:
  • An Associate of Science in Nursing degree or a Bachelor in Nursing degree from a foreign country
  • An RN license in the U.S. (Can be suspended until the completion of the course)
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5

PREREQUISITES
